Obituary

Farewell, Mr. Blackwell

Farewell Mr. Blackwell
Fashion designer and former Pageantry magazine contributor Richard Blackwell passed away Sunday of complications from an intestinal infection. The 86-year old designer was world famous for his annual worst-dressed lists that used brutal humor to skewer celebrities for their red carpet fashion follies. He once referred to Sharon Stone as “an over-the-hill Cruella DeVille” and said of Lindsay Lohan, “From adorable to deplorable.”
Despite his over-the-top satirical take on fashion train wrecks, most of his celebrity victims absolutely adored Blackwell because behind the scenes they knew he was anything but mean-spirited, one time even suggesting that he should attack designers and not the actresses who put their trust in them. But his critiques paved the way for Joan Rivers and countless other celebrity fashion critiques on red carpets everywhere.
Blackwell contributed a column, “Mr. Blackwell’s World,” to Pageantry magazine.

Hilton Sisters Offer Surprise Donation to Caitlin’s Closet

Hilton Sisters Offer Surprise Donation to Caitlin’s Closet
Caitlin Brunell, Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2008 and founder of Caitlin’s Closet, received over 50 dresses donated by Kathy, Paris and Nicky Hilton at her farewell luncheon. The event was sponsored by La Casa Hermosa and took place at the Rosen Center Hotel in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, August 15th.
Since 2006, Caitlin's Closet has received over 6,000 dresses from across the nation. What’s even more amazing is that since she was crowned in August 2007, over 5,000 have been collected and donated. Over 10 different states have been involved with helping Caitlin accomplish her goal of providing dresses to girls who might not otherwise have the opportunity to have the proper attire for a special occasion.
“I am so extremely grateful and overwhelmed! I want every girl to have the chance to feel the best they possibly can,” said Caitlin. “We are achieving this goal one dress at a time.”
Ami Manning presented the dresses on behalf of the Hilton family at the luncheon and said that Kathy Hilton has always been a huge supporter of philanthropic causes. When she heard about the work that Brunell has been doing, Hilton and her daughters were anxious to make a donation from their closets to Caitlin’s Closet.
“With this donation, we hope to continue to build positive self-images in young women everywhere,” Hilton said.
Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, the “little sister” to Miss America, has made available close to $3 million in college scholarships to girls between the ages of 13 to 17 in the last three years.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but models don’t. The term model conjures an image of stick-thin, towering beauties oozing confidence, glamour, poise and sexuality from every pore. “Skinny,” “no body fat,” and “size zero” are the words and phrases associated with models. “Chubby,” “well-fed,” and “big- boned” are not…

From acclaimed Model Manager Michael Flutie, Cris Abrego Productions and MTV, introducing “MODEL MAKERS”, the show that dares to go where no modeling show has gone before.
15 lucky women from around the country will get the opportunity of a lifetime when MTV hands them over to Michael Flutie and an expert team of trainers, nutritionists, stylists, and other industry leaders. Under the watchful "eye" of these experts, models will endure twelve weeks of intensive physical fitness training to help them get down to their ideal size. Models will also compete in various high fashion challenges to determine who has star quality. With weekly eliminations looming, models must put their best foot forward at all times while staying focused on losing weight.

T.V. Land

Pageantry's own Tanya Hutchison
Named Winner of TV Land's
'She's Got The Look'

Tonya Hutchinson
Tanya Hutchison's a winner! But, we here at Pageantry have known that for quite some time. The latest people to discover winning qualities of the 45-year old wife and mother of five are the perceptive judges for 'She's Got the Look', TV Lands newest and original hit reality show. The grand prize is a Contract with Wilhelmina Models, Inc. and Photo Spread in SELF Magazine
Tanya Hutchison has been a writer for Pageantry magazine's Etiquette department for many years and is a model and beauty advisor with Arbonne International in California. An expert in the skin-care industry, etiquette advisor, and modeling instructor, she is the author of a book entitled, Beauty Is a Journey Not A Destination: A Girl’s Personal Guide to Beauty and Etiquette. Her web site is t.myarbonne.com.
Tanya, who currently resides in Orange County, CA has been crowned the winner of "She's Got The Look," TV Land's original reality series searching for the next great supermodel -- over 35. Hutchison was announced as the winner on the dramatic season finale."She's Got The Look," is a collaboration with Wilhelmina Models, Inc., which sets out to discover a sophisticated, beautiful and confident woman 35 or older who is destined to become the next great supermodel.
Iconic supermodel Kim Alexis, who has graced the covers of more than 500 magazines, hosts "She's Got The Look." Supermodel Beverly Johnson -- who made history as the first African-American model to appear on the cover of American Vogue -- celebrity stylist Robert Verdi and Wilhelmina president Sean Patterson are featured as regular judges on the series. The series is executive produced by Emmy Award-Winner Allison Grodner ("Big Brother," "Blowout").
In the season finale, four finalists remained, and they had to put to use everything they've learned throughout the series to make it to the top. The women pitched themselves to the editors of SELF Magazine and then realized their pitch in their ultimate cover girl photo shoot.
"Tanya truly embodies what this competition is all about," states Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. "Not only is she beautiful but she has also had rich life experiences and has overcome so many obstacles to become the woman that she is today. 'She's Got The Look' is about the whole package, and Tanya has that."
"Tanya not only embodies beauty inside and out, but she is charming beyond belief," states Wilhelmina President Sean Patterson. "The goal of 'She's Got The Look' was to prove to the world that women over 35 who aspire to model would encompass more depth, charm and ultimate beauty than the average model. With Tanya, we found a uniquely beautiful and inspiring woman who will undoubtedly be a success in the modeling industry."
Hutchison is a 45-year-old wife and a mother of five who resides in Orange County, CA. Having begun modeling at a young age, Hutchison is proud to have overcome a life-threatening knife attack that left her scarred internally and externally. After the incident, she began to doubt herself and the price of beauty. She recently found a deeper meaning in her life by committing to missionary work in Africa, where she lectures young women on the importance of empowerment.
TV Land's nationwide search, which included months of online submissions, auditions and regional competitions around the country, resulted in flying 20 contenders to New York City. These semi-finalists were put to the test of expressing themselves and their fashion know-how. Ten finalists were then selected to live in a New York City loft and compete in challenges such as photo shoots, runway competitions and tests on their fashion sense. At the conclusion of the competition, one woman is crowned the ultimate winner.
TV Land recently announced that it has renewed the series "She's Got The Look" for a second season. Emmy Award-Winner Allison Grodner will return as executive producer.
Premiering in 2009, the second season of "She's Got The Look" will expand from six episodes to eight and will again set out to discover a sophisticated, beautiful and confident woman 35 or older destined for supermodel stardom.
